Although Alex seldom drew people in his earlier years, during time in the IDF he would sometimes sketch the soldiers. While others would sleep during a break from a strenuous action, Alex would draw—and write. On the rooftop of a Christian hospital in Marjayoun, Lebanon where he was guarding, Alex made his largest drawing: a 360 degree panorama from the Mediterranean to Mt. Hermon on which he wrote the geographical direction of the view in Arabic.
